nostalgia
bordertown (nostalgia) is now streaming in all those places you stream stuff. So I thought I’d give some background on the song and where I wrote it.
Bordertown is a little town on the border of my home state, Victoria and neighbouring, South Australia. It’s a very small place – home to a herd of rare, white kangaroos and birthplace of former Prime Minister who loved a beer.
This is where we spent the first of 120 nights in the van.
Only a one night stop, I woke early and went for a walk around the town. The streets were deserted. Everyone was still asleep. But despite never having been to this place before, I had this feeling of nostalgia. The streets reminded me of walking as a child with my beloved grandpa.
The same sound of footsteps on aged concrete.
The same rusty gate at the lawn bowls club.
The same buffalo grass and cinder block fence front yards.
It was really lovely. I felt like grandpa was with me, bidding me good luck on this, the first step of our journey.
I held that feeling close until we arrived at our next stop – the Adelaide Hills – where we spent several days, and where I was able to reflect on that feeling of nostalgia, and anticipation of the epic journey ahead.
It’s also my first “guitar song” :)
Ps. Today is Bandcamp Friday. It’s a great chance to go and buy some music and support independent artists directly. I promise, it means the world when you do
